“Make a Future – Careers in BC Education”(“we” or “us” or “MAF”) is a program of the BC Public School Employers’ Association (BCPSEA) that seeks to support the recruitment of educators to British Columbia public school districts and independent schools.
- ABOUT THIS SITE
This Site allows users and prospective job candidates to browse and download information about opportunities for employment within British Columbia’s education sector.
This Site also allows users to access functions to apply for employment opportunities with employers in British Columbia, and to exchange information with them (“Job Boards”). Use of the Job Boards is subject to your agreement to the MAF Terms of Use (“Terms”), which is an agreement that governs the services provided to you in connection with the Job Boards.
- WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PERSONAL INFORMATION COLLECTED THROUGH THIS SITE
Some of the personal information collected through this Site is collected automatically when you use or visit the Site, and some of the personal information that is collected is voluntary provided by users who use the Job Boards or sign up for other services available through the Site (collectively the “Services”).
We are responsible and have control of personal information that we collect through the Site. The organization with “control” or the “data controller” is the organization that is responsible for personal information that is collecting, including to keep it safe and ensure its collection, use and disclosure complies with applicable privacy laws.
For example, when you browse this Site or make inquiries of us, we are the controller of the data that is collected about you and are responsible for our collection, use, disclosure and processing of that information.
However, some of the Services we perform are provided on behalf of other organizations. For example, when you use the Job Boards to apply for a position or exchange information about yourself with a prospective employer (each an “Organization”), then the personal information that is collected and exchanged between you and those Organizations is controlled by those Organizations. We act as the service provider or processor for those organizations. If you have any questions about how an Organization collects and uses your personal information, you should contact that Organization directly.

When you visit the Site to browse, read pages, download information or apply for a position or register for an event, some information is automatically collected about you.
Depending on how you interact with this Site, that information may include:

- Your and browser, operating system and device characteristics;

- Your activity on the Site, such as webpages or files viewed, search and other information about use of the Site.

Personal information we collect and process also includes information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register for an event, register for the Job Boards, or submit questions or inquiries:
In these cases, we may use your personal information to provide Services, respond to your questions, communicate with you, to facilitate your participation in an event, to answer your inquiries or complaints, or to comply with legal obligations. Information we may collect about you for these purposes includes: Name, contact information, user names and passcodes and contact preferences.
When you use the Job Boards to apply for a position, your information is available to the Organizations that you choose to apply with. The information that is collected and used is the information that you choose to voluntarily supply. This usually includes: your name and contact information, your employment and educational history, your work and community experience, information about your past employment and educational performance and information about your preferred employment preferences or special considerations that may apply to your employment. It may also include any sensitive personal information that you choose to share with Organizations (e.g. health data, information about racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or ideological convictions or trade union membership). Some Organizations may also ask that you respond to specific questions about your needs or past employment, in which case this information will be collected through the website and provided.
The personal data that is collected using the Job Boards is used to assist the Organizations to assess your suitability or eligibility for employment, and to communicate with you for the purposes of arranging employment. If you are successful in obtaining a position, then this information may also be used to make suitable arrangements for your hiring and prepare for your arrival. HOW WE PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We process personal information to provide, improve and administer our Services, to communicate with you and respond to your inquires, for security purposes, to carry out the Terms and to comply with law. We may also process your personal information for other purposes for which you provide your consent.
Depending on how you interact with this Site, we may process your personal information for any one or more of the following reasons:
- To create and manage your account and authenticate your identity;
- To deliver Services to you in accordance with the Terms;
- To respond to questions, inquiries or requests for services or to provide support to you in connection with the use of this Site or our Services;
- To communicate with you and to enable your communications with the Organizations;
- To protect an individual’s vital interests such as to protect against harm;
- To assess, evaluate and improve this Site and our Services; and

From time to time, the Organizations may ask us to provide them with aggregated or de-identified data about the use of the Job Boards in relation to their operations.
LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING INFORMATION
MAF is located in British Columbia, Canada and is subject to the British Columbia Personal Information Protection Act, and, and in some circumstances, to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. We also endeavor to comply with other privacy and data protection laws that are applicable to us when our users are based outside of Canada.
Some data protection laws, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR require organizations to provide notice of the legal basis on which they collect, use, disclose and process personal information. We may rely on the following legal bases for processing personal information:

WHO we share data with
For users of the Job Boards, personal information that you voluntarily provide as part of an application or inquiry related to a position is shared by us externally with the Organization with whom you choose to apply.
MAF utilizes service providers to operate the Site and Job Boards, but we do not share user data with other third parties, and it is accessed only by MAF personnel and service providers for the purposes described above.
Some information about Site and Job Board usage may be aggregated and used by MAF and its funders for the purposes of evaluating and improving our services, but no information in identifiable information is used or disclosed for these purposes.
HOW YOUR DATA IS STORED
All personal information collected through the MAF website is stored by MAF and its service providers only within Canada. For information about how the Organizations store your personal data, please refer to their privacy statements.
We comply with local personal information protection laws, which require that we retain your data for at least one year if it is used to make a decision about you. Otherwise, we seek to destroy data as soon as it is no longer needed for business or legal purposes.
HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION
Privacy laws in Canada require MAF to protect your personal information by making reasonable security arrangements against such risks as unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, or disposal. Security measures have been integrated into the design, implementation and day-to-day operating practices as part of MAF’s continuing commitment to the protection of personal information.
We will take appropriate measures to safeguard the personal information provided, taking into account the sensitivity of the information. However, due to the nature of the technologies involved, there may still exist security or privacy risks, and we cannot guarantee that your personal information will not be collected, used or disclosed in ways not conforming with this policy.
Visitors should be aware that this Site includes links to websites operated by other agencies, organizations and businesses. When you link to such third party sites, this privacy policy will not apply. MAF is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of external third party websites.
